The invite
You have someone in mind. Here is how to ask.
You already know who. You just do not know how to bring it up without it getting weird. That is what this page is for.

The ask is smaller than you think
You are not inviting anyone to church. You are inviting them to one table, for one hour, to talk about one honest question. Eight to twelve people, food, no sermon, no follow-up unless they ask for it.
They can come once and never come back, and nothing about your friendship changes. That is the whole deal. It is small on purpose.
Three texts you can actually send
Steal these. Change the words so they sound like you, then send it today while you still mean it.
Random one for you. I go to this thing where eight or so people sit around a table over dinner and argue about God for an hour. Nobody preaches, nobody is selling anything. Honestly I just think you'd have things to say. Want to come with me?
This is a little out of left field. There's a group I'm part of that gets a handful of people around a table over dinner and takes on one big question, like whether suffering makes God impossible. It's an hour, it's not a church thing, and you can disagree with everyone in the room. I thought of you. Any interest?
I want to run something by you, and it is completely fine to say no. There's a table I go to where people ask the questions about God that churches usually dodge. No worship, no sermon, no one is going to corner you at the end. The people who have been burned are usually the ones who make the night worth it. If you ever want to come, I'll sit next to you.
"What if they ask me something I can't answer?"
You say: "I don't know. Come ask it out loud."
That is it. That is the entire thing you have to be able to do.
You are not the expert and you were never supposed to be. You are the door. The table is where the question gets handled, and a question you can't answer is the best possible reason for them to show up.
The fastest way to lose someone is to bluff. "I don't know" is the most credible sentence you own. Use it.
Two things to hold onto
God is responsible for the results.
Your job is the invitation. Whether they come, what they think, what happens in them after, none of that is yours to carry. Show up, prepare, use what you've been given. Let go of the rest.
A spiritual journey is a process.
Nobody arrives in one conversation. One honest hour at a table is a real step, even if it is the only one you ever see. You are probably not the first person in this story and you will not be the last.
If they say no
Then you know where they are, which is more than you knew yesterday. You asked once, gently, and you didn't make it strange. Ask again next year. That is a fine outcome.
You will want to know the date
Hard to invite anyone to a night that does not have a date yet. Sign up and you will know the moment the next table is set, early enough to ask before it fills. If you already know who you are bringing, add their first name below.
